Ethiopia’s Sintayehu Legese wins 2019 Lagos City Marathon, bags $50,000

The fourth edition of the annual Lagos City marathon has been won by Ethiopia’s Sintayehu Lesesse as he bags the $50,000 prize money.

The race, which took place on Saturday, kicked off in the early hours of the day from the National Stadium in Surulere and the finish line at Eko Atlantic City.

28-year-old Legese won the competition with a time of 2:17.28, followed by Kenya’s Joshua Kipkorir who finished with a time of 2:18:16, and in third place was another Kenyan, William Yegon who finished in 2:19:04.

In fourth place was Ethiopian Teshome Girma, who ran in 2:20:11, and will take home $20,000 as the second and first runners-up will take home $30,000 and $40,000 respectively.

The first Nigerian male to reach the finishing line was Sunday Manasa, who finished in the 6th spot after running for 2:21:11.

Everyone on this list above will receive a Credit Alert. From $8,000 to $50,000. Prize money totalling $185,000.

The women’s race was also dominated by Ethiopia as the first, second and third are Ethiopians, followed by two Kenyans in fourth and fifth, before a Nigerian in 6th spot.

The Nigerian, Badung Deborah reached the finish line at the time of 2:52:59.
