Buhari asks Senate to confirm Tsoho as Federal High Court CJ

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday nominated John Tosho as the substantive Chief Judge of the Federal High Court and asked the Senate to confirm the nomination.

In a letter President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, which was read at the plenary, Buhari said: “Pursuant to Section 250(1) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), I hereby write to request for confirmation by the Senate, the appointment of Honourable Justice J.T. Tsoho as the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court of Nigeria.”

Tsoho had been serving as the acting Chief Judge of the Federal High Court after he was sworn in on July 26.

President Buhari also nominated Benedict Bakwaph Kanyip as President of the National Industrial Court (NIC).

Equally nominated by President Buhari were Umar Mukhtar Gajiram (Borno), Aiaiibo Sinikiem Johnson (Bayelsa) and Raheem Muideen Olalekan (Osun). They were nominated as Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

After reading the letter, Lawan referred it to the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Legal Matters and asked the panel to turn in its report within a week.
