Plateau United stay top as MFM keep up chase

Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) sides, Plateau United and MFM FC booked their passage into the next round of the CAF Champions League following their preliminary round victories.

Having defeated Eding Sports 3-0 in the first leg played in Jos last week, NPFL champions Plateau United edged the Cameroon side 1-0 in the second leg on Wednesday.

It was Raphael Ayagwu who scored the only goal of the game in the 51st minute to seal a 4-0 aggregate win for the Plateau side.

In Agege Stadium, Lagos, MFM grabbed a 1-0 win against AS Real de Bamako of Mali, to win the tie 2-1 on aggregate after they had played a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Mali.

In what turned out to be a huge contest, Akuneto Chijioke scored the decisive goal five minutes from time to seal their qualification for the first round of the continental league.

While Plateau will now face Tunisian giants Etiole du Sahel in the next round, MFM will face the winner of the tie between Moloudia Club D’Alger and AS Otoho of Congo.
