WAFU: Super Falcons fall to Ghana on penalties

Nigeria’s Super Falcons crashed out of the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) Women’s Cup after they were defeated by Ghana 5-4 on penalties on Thursday night.

The Black Queens won the semifinal clash on penalties after regulation time ended 1-1, to advance to the final of the tournament in Abidjan.

It was Alice Ogebe who scored first to put the Nigerian ladies ahead on 8 minutes, before Faustina Ampah equalised for Ghana just about nine minutes later.

The contest was a tight one, as the second half came with many unconverted chances for both sides, which led to the penalty shootout.

Meanwhile, the other semi-final game also played on Thursday saw the hosts Côte d’Ivoire defeat Mali 2-0.>

Hence, Ghana will now face Côte d’Ivoire in the final on Saturday, as Nigeria and Mali battle for third-place also on Saturday.
