CAF CONFEDERATION CUP: FC Ifeanyi Ubah battle ready for Al-Masry

Nigeria Professional League side FC Ifeanyiubah are set for Sunday’s CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round, second leg tie against Egypt’s Al-Masry, as they depart Nigeria on Thursday for Port Said.

According to the team manager, Jonathan Igwe, the players and officials of the Anambra Warriors will arrive in Lagos from Nnewi on Wednesday evening and are expected to connect a flight from Lagos International Airport to Port Said, Egypt on Thursday.

“We are travelling to Egypt on Thursday for the second leg game against Al Masry,” Igwe said on Wednesday afternoon to Complete Sports.

“We will be in Lagos on Wednesday and then travel for the game on Thursday morning.”

In their first leg tie at Nnewi, Tame Medrano gave the home team the victory when he fired through a shot in the 87th minute and sent the crowd into a frenzy. And reacting to the game, the Chairman of FC IfeanyiUbah, Chuma Ubah said:

“We played well and the result is good for us. But unfortunately we could not utilise the chances.

“My players are experienced enough, and I am confident that we are going to do better in Egypt when we go for the second leg.”

But with the team holding just a 1-0 advantage, coach Igwe is confident his team will scale through in Egypt as he hopes to qualify for the next round of the CAF championship.

“It’s a pity we couldn’t score more than one goal in Nnewi last weekend, but that won’t stop us from making it to the next round,” he stated.

“They will have the advantage of playing in front of their fans, but that won’t stop us from getting a good result.”
