China dares US, seizes its underwater drone

A diplomatic war may just be brewing between two World Powers after a Chinese warship seized an underwater drone belonging to a U.S oceanographic vessel in the South China Sea.

Reports say the underwater drone was seized by China on Thursday about 50 nautical miles northwest of Subic Bay off the Philippines triggering a formal diplomatic protest and a demand for its return by U.S. officials.

“The UUV was lawfully conducting a military survey in the waters of the South China Sea,” one U.S official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

“It’s a sovereign immune vessel, clearly marked in English not to be removed from the water – that it was U.S. property,” the official said.
