Clearly FG has no room to create more jobs, Osinbajo says

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) on Wednesday said that Federal Government jobs are limited and that there is no room any longer for creating more.

He also said that the Federal Government currently spends over 70 per cent of its revenue on salaries and overheads, a situation according to him, that makes it very difficult to create more jobs in the public service.

Nigeria’s Acting President stated this during a meeting he had with middle-level civil servants on the implementation of Executive Orders, where he stressed on the need for hard work in the civil service in order for Nigeria to actualise its developmental aspirations.

He noted at the meeting that, “no matter how much you pray or fast our country cannot grow without doing the hard work that makes nations work.’’

The details of the meeting were made available to newsmen in a statement released by his spokesperson, Laolu Akande.

Part of the statement read, “I want to urge that the future lies in our hands. Every generation of people owe the next generation a debt and that debt is paid by ensuring that we provide for the means for the next generation to survive. Or at least, we have a duty to ensure that we do not destroy the means of survival and prosperity of the next generation.

“But there are some people in every generation who have a special burden, a more important role than others in preparing for present prosperity and future abundance and this group of people are called public servants. You and I who are here today; we are that group of people who have the special burden of providing and preparing for the future.

“There is nothing more heart-breaking than seeing your son or daughter after graduation and Youth Corps Service not having anything to do.

“In the past few years, I have tried to study the problem closely. How do we create jobs? How do we have enough opportunities for the millions of young people now and tomorrow?

“Clearly government jobs are limited and there is no room creating more. Already we are spending over 70 per cent of our revenue on salaries and overheads, so there is very little room for creating more jobs in the public service.”

Osinbajo further said that the power house of any economy, “the fastest and most efficient job creators are private businesses, both small and large; investments, both local and foreign,” adding that such ventures could be frustrated out of existence if the environment for doing business in a country is harsh or difficult.

He said civil servants “determines whether the business environment will be friendly and welcoming for business or whether business will be driven away or destroyed and whether the opportunities to create jobs will be there or not.”

He added, “So every time that a public officer is an obstacle to business in any way he attacks the prosperity of our economy and he attacks our future, it means our children cannot find jobs.

“Great economies and great nations, prosperity and abundance of nations and communities are created by men and not spirits and I want to emphasise this point that those who make nations great are you and I, not spirits.”

This is one thing I appreciate about Buhari’s government, sincerity. Instead of deceiving us and making Nigerians hopeful, Osinbajo told us the truth. At least, many people will stop hoping on getting federal government’s job, for a while.

Yeah, I appreciate the sincerity also. But this is Osibanjo’s sincerity, not Buhari’s government’s. As a matter of fact, many officials of this government have shown much insincerity in many matters. Lai, for example. I truly appreciate Prof’s sincerity, simplicity and brilliance in this speech.

“no matter how much you pray or fast our country cannot grow without doing the hard work that makes nations work,” the earlier we admit this the better we’ll all become in Nigeria. The rate at which Nigerians pray and go to church, if the time is invested in hard work and building ourselves, we won’t all be shouting poverty, we’ll break more grounds. For a pastor to have said this, everyone needs to think twice.

Another anti-Christ in the making! We should not pray again because we want to develop Nigeria? Osinbajo is made already and he knows how he’s handling his relationship with God, if he didn’t pray, he won’t be the Vice President of Nigeria. Telling us to pray less is like telling us God isn’t useful. Be careful bro

All those who have applied for Nigerian immigration office, you better think beyond the box now because Osinbajo has hit the nail on the head. I see cafe full of immigration job applicants.

Lol. That’s is quite different, surely what he is saying doesn’t mean that the federal government won’t employ again because definitely they will always do that but we should not be too eager to see federal government vacancies anyhow, for immigration vacancies, that’s real
