Disregard IPOB’s May 30 sit-at-home order, Police tell S’East residents

Members of the public have been urged to disregard the May 30 ‘Biafra Day’ sit-at-home celebration in the South East declared by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The call to disregard the order was made by the Anambra State Police Command which issued a statement noting that IPOB still remains proscribed and its activities are illegal.

Spokesperson of the command, Haruna Mohammed said: “Information at the disposal of the Anambra State Police Command has revealed that the outlawed group, IPOB, is perfecting plans through public announcement and threats in Nnewi and other parts of the state to enforce a sit-at-home order, warning people to stay at home and not to come out for business activities on May 30.

“For the avoidance of doubt, IPOB is still a proscribed organisation, hence, its activities remain illegal.”

Mohammed added that the Commissioner of Police, Mustapha Dandaura “enjoined Ndi Anambra” to disregard such alleged calls and go about their lawful businesses.”

The development comes days after IPOB revealed that the celebration will witness plans to honour some nations and organisations which they said have remained friendly to the Biafra cause over the years.

That much information was revealed in a statement signed on Monday by Uchenna Madu, and leaders of other pro-Biafra groups which was made available to newsmen in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.

IPOB in the statement said in addition to ‘friendly’ nations and organisations, some individuals who have also contributed to the Biafra cause would be honoured on that day.
