Eagles stay 44th in FIFA world ranking, drop to 4th in Africa

The Super Eagles of Nigeria maintained their 44th position but dropped to fourth in Africa in the latest FIFA World Ranking released on Thursday.

The team drew 1-1 with South Africa in an Africa Cup of nations (AFCON) qualifier and also drew goalless with Uganda in an international friendly this November.

They successfully gannered 1,427 points retained the 44th spot in the world, but dropped from 3rd to 4th on the African continent.

The Teranga Lions of Senegal are now ranked first in Africa having displaced Tunisia from the position. Both are ranked 23rd and 26th respectively in the world.

Morocco leaped seven places to become third on the continent, while Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo completed the top five.

Belgium remain the best in the world, followed by France, Brazil, Croatia and England.

The big climbers in the latest ranking include the African quintet of Mozambique (117th, up 5), Angola (125th, up 5), Sudan (127th, up 8), Comoros (143rd, up 5) and Gambia (166th, up 7).

The rise of Kosovo (131st, up 6) was also notable as it took them to their highest ever FIFA Ranking position.

The next release of the FIFA Ranking is scheduled for December 20.
