Echiejile delighted to ‘take up new challenge’ at Finland’s HJK Helsinki

Super Eagles defender, Elderson Echiejile has joined Finland top-flight club, HJK Helsinki.

The 30-year-old, who made the announcement via his Instagram page, says he is delighted to take up a new football challenge in Finland.

He however did not reveal the details of the deal.

Echiejile represented Nigeria at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, but was not included in the matchday squad in their three group games.

“I’m happy to inform my fans of my decision to take up a new football challenge in Finland. I’m officially a player of HJK Helsinki,” Echiejile wrote.

The left back terminated his contract with French giants, AS Monaco at the start of this season.

He previously played for Cercles Brugge, Standard Liege, Sivasspor, SC Braga in Portugal and Rennes of France.

He is also missing in the Super Eagles squad set to face Seychelles in next week’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

It is yet to be known if Echiejile will make the squad when Nigeria returns to the AFCON finals in Egypt later this year.
