Two victims lost their lives and many others sustained various degree of injuries when dare devil robbers raided a branch of Union bank in Igede Ekiti, headquarters of the Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, those who died during the attack by the robbers on Wednesday were a bank official and a private security guard who was on duty during the incident.

Other reports said the daredevil marauders carted away with an undisclosed sum of money

Reacting to the bank robbery, DSP Caleb Ikechukwu, the Ekiti state Police Public Relations Officer said more men have been deployed across banks in the state to forestall future attacks.

The police spokesman said after the raid, the robbers had planned on escaping through Ilawe-Igede Road, but later drove into the bush and escaped into a thick forest.

“There was exchange of gunshots between the robbers and our personnel. Our men tried their best to manage the situation.

“It is true that two persons were killed during the operation. The robbery was regrettable and the death of the two persons was painful.”
