El-Rufai wins, gets another term as Kaduna gov

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, winner of Saturday’s Governorship elections in Kaduna State, earning him a second term in office.

According to results released by INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Mohammed Bello, Vice-Chancellor, Bayero University, Kano, El-Rufai polled 1,045,427 to defeat his closest rival who is the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Isa Ashiru, who scored 814,168.

The result released by INEC which returns El-Rufai as governor of the state has already been outrightly rejected by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Reacting to the outcome of the election at the State Collation Centre, the party’s agent, Mr. Jerry Ishaya, said the results announced by INEC does not reflect the wish of the people.

Ishaya said he wondered how INEC came about the numbers they announced when they have it on good authority that card readers were not used in Kabau, Kaduna North, Kaduna South, Igabi, Soba and Lere Local Government Areas of the state.
