EPL: Chelsea beat Arsenal 3-1

Chelsea have won nine successive Premier League home games with a comfortable 3-1 win over Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Marcos Alonso opened the scoring from close range when he headed in the rebound after Diego Costa’s effort hit the crossbar.

The Blues doubled their lead seven minutes after the break when Eden Hazard tucked the ball into the net after a fantastic run which began on the halfway line.

Cesc Fabregas made it three for the home team when he lobbed past Cech after a poor clearance five minutes before stoppage time, before Olivier Giroud scored a late consolation goal for the visitors in the
91st minute.

Chelsea Manager Antonio Conte said the win on Saturday makes Chelsea worthy of their position in the league.

“It was an important game. I consider Arsenal one of the six teams that can fight for the title until the end of the season. To put them 12 points behind is very important for us.

“In four days we have had two games against two great teams. I think we are showing we deserve to stay on top of the table. I am very pleased for my players. In every session they show me great attitude and great will to fight and win this league,” the Italian said in a post-match conference..

The Gunners Manager Arsene Wenger, who watched from the stands as he served the third of a four-match touchline ban, named Hazard’s second-half goal as the beginning of their defeat.

“We had a strong start but didn’t take the opportunities and after half-time the second goal was the killer for us,” he said.

Chelsea will travel to Burnley in the Premier League next Sunday, while Arsenal host Hull City on Saturday.
