Even if election takes place in 2019, Buhari’s APC won’t accept defeat –Bafarawa

A former governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, has described the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as a disorganized party which is driven by greed.

The former governor doubted the possibility of general elections holding in 2019, adding that if eventually it holds that he does not see the APC accepting defeat and vacating the seat of power.

The former governor was reacting to the crisis that has continued to trail the nationwide congresses of the APC and the party’s inability to address scary issues of insecurity, occasioned by herdsmen wanton destruction of lives and properties and other criminal activities pervading the country.

In a statement he released on Monday, Bafarawa said, “If the APC and its government cannot organise a peaceful, fair and credible congress, how can it hold a general election that will most likely bring about a change of government? An election is a very serious event and a party or a government which cannot deal with its internal issues cannot face the reverberations of a general election.”

Accusing the APC of suffering from greed and its members at administrative heights of being driven by desperation, he added, “They want to hold on to power at all costs.”

According to him, the effect is the “deadly struggle” that has now manifested in the APC congresses across the country.

“A government or a party that does not know what internal democracy is all about will not accept the verdict of an election in which it is a loser. I strongly believe that even if an election takes place, the APC government will not accept defeat. It will like to hold on to power. And this will have dangerous consequences for the peace and stability of the country,” he said.

The former governor feared that the APC and its government having known that Nigerians may vote the party out in 2019, may not be properly disposed to free, fair and credible elections.
