Ex-NNPC boss, Yakubu to be arraigned Thursday over seized N3bn

The former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Andrew Yakubu, will on Thursday be arraigned before a Federal High Court in Abuja by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over his N3billion alleged crime.

His arraignment is coming after the EFCC on March 10 levelled a six-charge count of fraud and false declaration of assets against him.

The anti-graft agency had on February 3 stormed a building belonging to Yakubu and recovered the sum of $9.7m and £74,000 hidden in a huge fireproof safe in a slum in Kaduna.

Add together, the total money in foreign currencies amounts to about N3bn.

On February 8, EFCC announced it has arrested Yakubu in Kano State to help in the investigation of the matter.

He was later moved to the detention facility of the anti-graft agency in Abuja.

He will be arraigned before Justice Ahmed Mohammed on Thursday, the same judge hearing his human rights enforcement suit he leveled against the EFCC.
