Fani-Kayode has a heart-related ailment, not heart disease, aide says

Obiageli Nwachukwu, an aide to a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has said that her boss is not suffering from heart disease but a heart-related ailment.

She was reacting to a media report earlier on Wednesday which quoted the former minister’s lawyer, Mr. Norrison Quakers (SAN), as telling the court that Fani-Kayode has heart disease.

Nwachukwu, who is Fani-Kayode’s special assistant on public affairs said of the alleged false report, “This is false. Worst still the story has brought a lot of fear and consternation into the hearts and minds of Chief Fani-Kayode’s friends, supporters and family members all over the world.”

She went further to say in the statement denying the report, “It is only in the world of the reporter that a ‘heart-related ailment’ has suddenly become ‘heart disease’.

“Chief Fani-Kayode’s lawyer, Mr. Norrison Quakers SAN, said that he had a ‘heart-related ailment’ in open court and not ‘heart disease’.

“There is a world of difference between the two. He also said that he will be presenting a medical report to the court at a later date.

“Secondly, it is not true that Chief Fani-Kayode had asked the court and got two previous adjournments in this case. The court records are there for all to see.

“Today was the first and only time that Chief Fani-Kayode has ever been absent from the proceedings at the Federal High Court in Lagos or asked for an adjournment from this particular learned judge.

“He looks forward to being in court at the adjourned date and he fully appreciates the fact that the EFCC did not oppose the application for adjournment and that the learned trial judge granted it expeditiously.

“We feel it is important to make these clarifications for record purposes”.

Fani-Kayode, ex-President Goodluck Jonathan’s 2015 Presidential Campaign Organisation Director of Publicity, is facing a N4.6 billion fraud charge at the Lagos Federal Hogh Court.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is prosecuting him alongside a former Minister of State for Finance, Senator Nenadi Usman; a former national chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Yusuf Danjuma, and a company, Jointrust Dimensions Nigeria Ltd.

His counsel, Quakers, had told the court when the case came up on Wednesday that his client was ill and unable to be in court for the day’s proceedings.
