Britain’s Mo Farah is quitting the Olympics after clinching a glorious long-distance ‘double double’ with a thrilling victory in Rio.

The 33-year-old has become the first man since ‘Flying Finn’ Lasse Viren to do the distance double at consecutive Olympics..

Speaking after his electrifying sprint to victory at the Olympic Stadium in Rio de Janeiro he said: “Being a father and having four kids is not easy. My wife struggles and that is the hardest part of your life.

“I miss my kids. For six months of the year [I’m away at a training camp].

“When you see them cry, when you see them eating not well, that is the hardest thing for me really.

‘I’m 33 years old I’m getting old. Every year is different and as an athlete you’ve got to be honest with yourself.’

Farah battled through the adoring crowd at the packed stadium to find his wife Tania and daughter Rhianna after he made history by completing the ‘double-double’ – successive Olympic golds in the 10,000m and the 5,000m at London 2012 and at Rio 2016.
