FIFA Rankings: Nigeria moves up one place

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have moved up one place in the latest FIFA ranking released on Thursday.

The team moved from 53rd to 52nd position in the world ranking but dropped one position in the African ranking, from 9th to 10th.

The Eagles will be playing two friendly games in the month of October. Congo in Belgium, Brussels on Thursday 8th October and Cameroon three days later on Sunday, October 11.

Sunday Oliseh’s side played two matches in September, the month under review, playing out a draw with Tanzania in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Dar es Salaam, before defeating Niger in an international friendly.

Interestingly, Nigeria’s upcoming opponents in the series of friendlies lined up for the side in October, Cameroon and Congo, as well as the Super Eagles’ next opponent in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, Egypt, are now ranked seventh, eighth and ninth respectively in Africa. Cameroon dropped six places to 48th in the world, while Congo slipped seven places to 49th in the world.

Meanwhile, Egypt are now ranked 51st in the world after dropping two places from their August ranking of 49.
