Grenade attack on Ethiopia’s biggest mosque

The biggest mosque in Ethiopia situated in the capital of Addis Ababa was hit by a grenade attack which left at least 10 people wounded, government officials say.

Information Minister Gatachew Reda said that authorities are unsure who is behind the attack at the Grand Anwar Mosque but are still investigating.

Initially, the Addis Standard reported that the noise heard in the area was the result of an electrical pole collapsing.

In recent times, Ethiopia has been fighting low-levels of insurgency by several rebel groups.
It could be recalled that in August, a court in Ethiopia sentenced 18 Muslims, including clerics and a journalist, to up to 22 years in prison under controversial anti-terrorism legislation.
