MINIMUM WAGE: We have fulfilled another election promise, APC says

The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has said that it lost the governorship election on some states because the party did not manipulate the process to its advantage.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Lanre Issa-Onilu, who stated this this in an interview with journalists in Abuja, also insisted that unlike what obtained in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the party was not about winning election by All means.

According to Issa-Onilu, it was unheard of before the advent of APC as the ruling party for a party to lose election in a state it was controlling, adding that the government of President Muhammadu Buhari decided to give Nigerians the opportunity to choose their leaders without anyone forcing them.

“You have seen prominent politicians, even in our own party, losing elections in this country. You saw a serving governor in Oyo State who couldn’t win one-third of the state. A governor who is governing the entire state couldn’t win one-third of the state to get to the Senate.

“You have seen the struggle that is still going on in Akwa Ibom State, with somebody of the calibre of Godswill Akpabio. Though we know there are issues about that and they will be addressed, at the same time, we didn’t arm-twist anybody or manipulate the system.”

The APC spokesman however believes that the performance of the party at the recent elections shows that it’s chances are bright in retaining power in 2023.
