I had to withdraw $10m on the spot to convince myself I had so much money —Dangote

Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has told of the day he was convinced he had got so much money.

Dangote made the revelation during an interview with Mo Ibrahim in Abidjan.

He was speaking on how farming business could make one to become rich faster.

He said after he realised he had about $13 billion in his account, to prove that it was not just on paper, he went to the bank and withdrew $10 million and realised he had so much money.

“After a year or so, I realised that I had much more, and I said ok, fine, all these numbers are just written numbers.

“One day I went to a bank, and at that time, there were no restrictions, and I wrote a cheque and cashed $10m from the bank and put it in the boot of my vehicle, and I went home and I opened it and I looked at $10m and I said ‘now I believe I have money’.”

Also speaking during the interview, Dangote said that Nigeria would be the largest exporter of cement in Africa by the end of this year (2019) and that the Dangote refinery would at commissioning handle about 650m barrel of crude and 32 million tonnes of products.

Dangote, who among other things said he had no house in London, added that he is aware of many of his workers who own properties in London.
