Ibrahimovic gets MLS richest player offer

Major League Soccer side LA Galaxy have reportedly told Zlatan Ibrahimovic they are interested in making him the highest paid player in MLS history if he makes the move to the U.S this summer.

Ibrahimovic, who has scored 26 goals for Manchester United this season, only joined on a one-year deal last summer, with an option to stay another season. But while United are desperate to keep him, the 35-year-old is yet to agree.

Recall that star player, David Beckham, joined the club from Real Madrid back in 2017 and made a huge impact on soccer in the United States, and it is believed that Ibrahimovic also has the potential to make as big an impact if he moves to the MLS side.

Brazilian forward Kaka was the highest paid player in MLS, with a published annual salary from Orlando City of $7.167m in 2016, as LA Galaxy also paid former England midfielder Steven Gerrard, who is now retired, $6.1m last season.

Galaxy, who are winners of three out of the last six MLS titles, are yet to disclose the lenght of the proposed contract; but with Ibrahimovic’s United contract expiring at the end of season, the club could sign him in advance, the same way they did with Beckham at Madrid.

However, following the striker’s amazing form plus his effort in their EFL Cup win against Southampton, manager Jose Mourinho and the United board may have other ideas.

Zlatan was handed a 3-match FA ban on Tuesday following a charge of violent conduct for elbowing Bournemouth’s Tyrone Mings in their Premier League clash at Old Trafford last Saturday, but will start in their Europa League last-16 first-leg tie with Russian side Rostov on Thursday.
