INSECURITY: Army deploys soldiers in 28 states

The Nigerian has said that it has deployed soldiers in 28 states of the federation to maintain internal security.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai stated this on Saturday, in Ikpolo community during the official launch and presentation of 12 combat motorbikes to officers deployed to maintain peace in the troubled territories.

Buratai, who was represented by the General Officer Commanding 82 Division of the Nigerian Army Enugu, Major General Emmanuel Kabuk, explained that the donation of the motorbikes by the army was to facilitate easy accessibility to the troubled regions by the troops on the ground.

He said: “The challenges confronting officers at the communities include their inability to access the crisis-prone areas where vehicles cannot reach.

“The hostilities take place in areas where soldiers do not have access due to poor terrain and lack of good roads. The challenges were presented to the army authorities and approvals were made for the purchase of 12 combat motorbikes to be given to troops on ground to ensure that peace reigns in the troubled communities.”

According to the army chief, troops were deployed in the North-East, North-West, North-Central and the South-East.

Kabuk said, “Military personnel deployed in the North-East would fight Boko-Haram, those in the North-West would tackle cattle rustling while those in the South-East will combat communal and boundary disputes in various communities.

“It is my belief that the motorbikes would assist the troops to penetrate areas where vehicles cannot reach on time.”

Speaking at the ceremony, Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, who was represented by his deputy, Kelechi Igwe, commended the Chief of Army Staff for his resilience in restoring peace to the crisis-ridden communities.

Umahi also assured members of the public that the state government would continue to render necessary assistance to the military in ensuring that peace and tranquility are restored in the troubled zones.
