Nigeria In One Minute

Jimi Disu’s hollow analysis

By Joseph Edgar …

Every morning, I am stuck with Uncle Jimi Disu. He comes on air every morning at Seven on Classic Fm, which I must add is my favourite station to bore us silly with his empty postulations. His analysis are so one sided and empty of deep analysis which leads me to understand why it is not a phone in programme.

I am sure, the producers are aware of his lack of deep understanding of the Nigerian project but due to his age they allow him spread his half-baked and not too well thought out postulations on air, while protecting him from the wrath of Nigerians by only allowing text and Twitter messages. These messages are carefully selected and read out, giving him a further opportunity to unleash his warped logic on us.

The fact that he is gregarious, talks too much and drowns his co presenters with his baritone voice worsens the whole matter. The co presenters themselves are another joke. You can sense in their voices that they idolize him, agree at all he says no matter how thin layered, and laugh at his crass jokes which all make up for one of the most banal 30minutes on air.

Funny enough, the programme is very popular and to me this is a reflection of just how shallow we have become as a society. During the elections the programme was the go to programme and he wallowed in his ignorance as he held court explaining and analyzing issues in his own way without really giving us the objectivity expected of a veteran like him.

He screams in his holier than thou attitude, throwing out explanations that gives me goose pimples as I listen and just shake my head with pity for this self appointed evangelist of the Nigerian project.

You would ask me why I listen, my driver like the rest of us zombies is hooked on the programme. As I enter the car, the station is already permanently locked on the dial and I listen very reluctantly hoping against hope that just maybe the programme would eventually achieve a level of objectivity.

But morning after morning I am served with Uncle Jimi’s jaundiced views, his monotony and his diatribe on issues he really doesn’t have a hold on.

His Sunday interviews are worse. He gives us very exciting guests unlike my other uncle, Soni Irabor who is bent on bringing back the 80s, or how do you explain his penchant for bringing people like Oritz Wiliki and Ras Kimono on air.

But Mr. Disu’s guests are on point and trending, the only matter there is that he doesn’t even allow them talk. He does all the talking, asking the questions and answering them himself.

Check out his interview with Ben Bruce and Lai Mohammed. Two very interesting personalities. I don’t think I learnt anything from those interviews except the fact that he grew up in the same area as them. The laughter was raucous and irritating. Ben who is a talker himself fought back a couple of times to get his say, but was always wrestled down by the interviewer. I just laughed and shook my head. How can you have a Lai Mohammed on air and not allow him talk.

Well, I have finally rediscovered my ear phones and solved the wahala of having to listen to such boring postulations in a bid not to depress myself before a hard day’s work.

Weldone Mr Edgar, your very porous analysis of Jimi Disu’s show shows you are just who you are trying to criticize, i have disagreed with him over a lot of issues despite the fact that my age is just below half of his but that does not stop the fact that he is the best daily political analyst on radio in all around lagos, excluding guest analysts. Jimi Disu is spot on on most issues even though he goofs on some, and to think of those that listen to his program as zombies say a lot about you.

I couldn’t agree more. No one knows all, but Jimi Disu is, for me, just about the best. Of course, unless you’re the bible itself, I can’t possibly agree with you on all issues, but hey, you gotta listen and learn. There is always something to learn.

    Who is this Joseph Edgar?

Are you seeking to be known or what is your problem. You accused Uncle Jimi of hollow analysis yet your own analysis of him is not just “hollower” and unprofessional but also full of hatred and proudly advertised your stupidity.

You even have the guts to call his listeners zombies!!! That simply shows your a goat fathered by a cow.
