KENYA DECIDES: Opposition leader warns of possible rigging

Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga has warned of possible rigging as his compatriots prepare to cast their votes in the fast approaching general elections scheduled for Tuesday, August 8.

The former Prime Minister says he is prepared to stop any possible plot by the president’s ruling Jubilee party to extend the stay of the incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta in office.

“There are attempts to manipulate the results,” Odinga said. “The only way Jubilee can win this election is by rigging,” he said in an interview with Al Jazeera.

“They have no other way. We are more than confident that we are going to get a decisive victory on Tuesday,” Odinga added.

His fears are being expressed as scores of Kenyans are reportedly fleeing their country over fear that the general elections may spark ethnic violence among rival parties.

According to reports, household items like soap, long-life milk, maize flour and cooking oil are flying off the shelves of supermarkets in Nairobi as people stock up on foodstuff and other essential items amid fears that violent protests will break out once the result of the elections are announced.
