Denied access to Kano, Kwankwaso takes presidential campaign to Anambra

Former Kano State governor, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso has at last suspended his planned visit to the state, after, according to him, some well-meaning Nigerians called from home and abroad to advice against his going on with the plan.

The former governor had earlier scheduled to visit Kano on Tuesday January 30, but was on Friday advised by the Nigerian Police not to visit the state on security grounds.

The senator had in his response vowed to proceed with the visit as scheduled, saying that nothing cpuld stop him.

However, the chairman, Kwankwaso Visit Reception Committee, Dr. Rabi’u Bichi, told newsmen in Kano on Monday that the governor has decided to shelve the visit for the moment due to intervention of some well-meaning Nigerians home and abroad.

He said, “This standoff has attracted the attention of well-meaning Nigerians at home and abroad. They have called to give advice that mostly borders on the preservation of lives and property of our supporters and admirers.

“In view of the above and after lengthy consultations with well-meaning Nigerians, we painfully have decided to shelve the visit at the moment.”

Thanking supporters who showed concern over developments in Kano State, Bichi said, “It is important to state that Kwankwaso’s visit will never be a reason to deliberately inconvenience any citizen, small or big let alone spill a drop of blood.

“We, therefore, appeal for peace, calm and call on our supporters to disregard any provocative statement.”
