A Lagos landlord, Gbade Metibemu, accused of stabbing his tenant to death over argument of where used water should be disposed is to be remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons, until a legal advice is received from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

34-year-old Metibemu, was arraigned on Thursday to face trial on a charge of murder before Magistrate Mrs K.A. Ariyo of an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, but his plea was not taken.

Insp. Cpl. Hafsat Ajibodu, the case prosecutor said that the suspect committed the offence on July 21 at No. 10, Apollo St., Makoko, Lagos.

According to her, the accused had stabbed one Bright Chineme with a kitchen knife and killed him over an argument of where the deceased’s wife should dispose-off her used water in the compound.

The offence is said to have contravenes Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, and therefore must not be tried in lower courts, including magistrates’ courts.

The magistrate adjourned the case to October 25 and if found guilty, section 221 prescribes a death sentence for offenders.
