Not Too Young To Run Act: APC dubs PDP a killjoy, as opposition party attacks Buhari

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that it is not bothered by the Wednesday judgement of the Supreme Court that reinstated Senator Ahmed Makarfi as the Peoples Democratic Party chairman.

After more than two years legal battle for the soul of PDP, Makarfi eventually emerged PDP authentic leader following the apex court judgment that nullified an earlier judgment of an Appeal Court sitting in Port Harcourt which sanctioned Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as the party chairman.

But in reaction to the outcome of the court ruling in an interview with newsmen in Abuja, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Bolaji Abdullahi, argued that the ruling party does not care about who won the court case as neither Sheriff nor Makarfi PDP is a threat to the APC.

“Whichever way you want to look at it, the ruling has no direct consequence on APC whichever faction the pendulum swings to,” he said.

According to Abdullahi, those who see the unity of the PDP as a threat to the APC are making a big mistake.

Meanwhile, a human rights lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), has lauded the ejection of Sheriff and alleged that he was working for the APC.

Ozekhome, who stated this in a statement on Wednesday, further argued that if not for the sacking of Sheriff, Nigeria would have completely slid into an autocratic and despotic one-party state.

He said, “Sheriff and his faction were bent on destroying it (PDP) completely. It must have made the ruling APC green with envy in terms of the Sheriff’s huge capacity to exert maximum damage to the PDP’s corporate existence.

“Have you ever seen a supposed opposition party fraternising with and eulogising the ruling party on every step taken and never criticising it, yet tongue-lashing its own party? Have u ever seen where a warring faction became allergic to a settlement that would throw its party up from its nadir of doldrums?

“The apex court of Nigeria in its unanimous judgment today did two invigorating things: first, it saved Nigeria’s destructive and annihilating slide into an autocratic and despotic one-party state where absolutism and lack of opposition were already rearing their monstrous visages.

“Secondly, it saved, unarguably, the most potent opposition, the PDP, from self -destruction and internally generated volcanic eruption. There is no doubt that the Ahmed Makarfi and Modu Sheriff factions were apples and oranges when compared on an imaginary scale of genuineness.

“One was Japanese, the other, Taiwanese in terms of originality and imitation.”
