Man allegedly murders friend over N300 sunglasses

A 30-year-old man identified as Ahmed Sosan is now cooling his heels in police net after he stabbed his friend Yusuf Sani over eyeglasses said to be worth about N300.

Reports say the incident occurred at about 2p.m. on January 1, at Alla Street, Agege area of Lagos during the New Year celebration when Sosan approached Yusuf asking him to hand over the glasses he was wearing.

A witness said Sosan walked up to Yusuf where he was dancing and told his friend he liked the glasses and demanded for it.

His request was said to have annoyed the deceased who refused to hand over the glasses which led to a quarrel.

According to Suleiman, a resident of the area, a fight broke out between the two friends when Sosan forcefully attempted to take the glasses from Yusuf.

He said: “When they were fighting, some of us approached and tried to settle the issue.

“They both later went their separate ways. While Sani went into a nearby mosque to observe his prayer, Sosan came back about 4p.m. To our surprise, Sosan went to where Sani was standing and grabbed his clothes. Sosan said they should continue their fight from where they stopped. Sosan slapped Sani and soon, they were fighting again.

“Before we knew what was happening, Sosan brought out a knife and stabbed Sani in the chest.”

However, Yusuf didn’t know he was stabbed according to another resident, Mr. Abdulahi Aminu, but became aware after he started to lose blood.

Mr Aminu said: “Immediately, blood started gushing out of his chest. He screamed that we should rush him to a nearby chemist for treatment. He later died on the way to the chemist. He died of blood loss.”

The incident was confirmed by SP Chike Oti, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), who informed that the suspect has been arrested.

“The culprit has been arrested. The case is under investigation,” the PPRO said.
