Man City beat Liverpool on penalties to win Community Shield

English Premier League holders, Manchester City defeated Liverpool 5-4 on penalties on Sunday in a thrilling Community Shield clash.

It was an entertaining game between the two big sides at Wembley as the regulation time ended one goal apiece.

England forward, Raheem Sterling put City ahead in the 12th minute when he turned in David Silva’s flick-on from close range.

The Reds kept on pushing for an equaliser and got it in the 77th minute when Joel Matip headed home Virgil Van Dijk’s cross.

In the shootouts, Georginio Wijnaldum’s penalty was saved by City goalkeeper Claudio Bravo, before Gabriel Jesus scored the winning kick.

The Community Shield is a flag raiser for the new league season, which kicks off this Friday.
