Many injured, buildings damaged, as explosion rocks Akure (photos)

An explosion that rocked Akure, the Ondo State capital in the early hours of Saturday has left many buildings destroyed, with an unknown number of people injured.

The incident which happened along Akure-Owo road in Ilu Abo town, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, also cut the expressway in two.

The cause of the explosion has not been ascertained as at the time of this report.

Reacting to the incident via his twitter handle, the state governor called for calm, adding that he would be visiting the scene later in the day.
