MASS DEFECTIONS: Oshiomhole happy ‘mercenaries’ have left

The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, on Tuesday had a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhar as mass defection hit the ruling party.

Oshiomhole said that he was happy that some National Assembly members of the APC, he described as “mercenaries”, who’s only interest in the party were just to win election, had eventually left the ruling party.

15 members of the Senate and 33 members of the House of Representatives, had earlier on Tuesday announced their defection from the party.

However, Oshiomhole told State House correspondents after meeting with the President on at the Presidential Villa, Abuja that he was not bothered by the development as those who left were mere “mercenaries”.

Insisting that APC was “not disturbed at all” and that he is not losing sleep over the defections, Oshiomhole added that it was good that those who never believed in the APC are leaving ahead of the electioneering activities.

He said that the development would now enable the ruling party to concentrate on its campaigns.

While he also boasted that those who left the party cannot in any way affect the electoral fortunes of APC as President Buhari got more votes than them in their own constituencies in the last election, he tagged the defectors as right wing politicians who believe in the philosophy of “share the money”.
