Political tsunami hits APC: 32 Reps defect to PDP

As expected, 36 members of the House of Representatives have joined the bandwagon of defection from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The lawmakers dumped APC on Tuesday with four of them defecting to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while the rest moved to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The development came after 15 senators had earlier on Tuesday morning, also dumped the APC.

The Speaker of the House, Yakubu Dogara read the respective letters of the defectors at Tuesday’s plenary.
The 36 lawmakers had cited division at all levels of the APC as warranting their decision.

Afterwards, another lawmaker, making the number of defectors 37, also announced that he was dumping the party, but failed to announce his new party.

The lawmaker is the chairman of the House of Representatives committee on Rules and Business, Orker Jev.

Among the defectors were Barry Mpigi, Sani Rano, Ali Madaki, Dickson Tackighir, Hassan Saleh, Danburam Nuhu, Mark Gbilah, Razak Atunwa, Ahmed Bichi, Abdulsamad Dasuki and Zakari Mohammed.

Meanwhile, the Speaker, Yakubu Dogara and his deputy, Yusuff Lasun, who are believed to be among aggrieved members of the APC did not dump the party.
