The Nasarawa State government led by Governor Abdullahi Sule has revealed plans to stem to possible spread of the deadly coronavirus also known as COVID-19 which first broke out in Wuhan, China.

Moments after a stakeholders’ meeting chaired by Governor Sule on Saturday, Mr. Ahmed Yahaya, Commissioner for Health, during a press briefing said that advocacy and immediate testing will now take place at motor parks across the state to sensitize travelers on safety steps to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The commissioner of health who was speaking in the state capital of Lafia added that the measure would prevent infected travelers coming into the state from spreading the disease to residents of the state.

“We are moving to parks and markets to increase sensitization, advocacy and we have ordered necessary gadgets for us to test for coronavirus on-spot travelers and traders so as to ensure the disease does not come to the state,” Yahaya said.

The development comes after the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency on (NAMA) on Saturday formally notified all foreign airlines operating in the country on the shutdown of its airspace.

A Notice to Airmen signed by one Adamu B. H. of the Aeronautical Information Services Department said the decision takes effect from 12:00 midnight on Tuesday.

The Federal Government had earlier ordered the closure of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos; and the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, over the Coronavirus pandemic had killed about 10, 000 people and infected 200,000 others in 60 countries across the globe.
