NEC MEETING: N100bn approved for National Livestock Transformation Plan

The National Economic Council (NEC) has proposed a budget of a 100 billion naira for the implementation of the National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP).

Chairman of the subcommittee on farmer-herder crisis, Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, told State House Correspondents that it was agreed that the Federal Government would bear 80 percent of the amount while participating states would support with 20 billion naira and provision of lands for the programme.

He reiterated that the NLTP was not meant for cows alone but to address all challenges of animal husbandry in the country.

Umahi also said states were free to use any animal of their choice in the implementation of the programme and that a date for the effective take-off of the programme would be decided at its next meeting in October.

He said the committee presented its six pillared 2019-2028 plan that had, conflict resolution, justice and peace, humanitarian relief and early recovery for IDPs, human capital development, cross-cutting issues, and economic development.

The committee also proposed an implementation guideline for the federal government and states.
