Published

Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has been named captain of Germany following the retirement of Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Joachim Loew announced the decision to the rest of his squad on Thursday, the day after Schweinsteiger emotionally bought the curtain down on his international career with his 121st and final cap in the 2-0 win over Finland.

Neuer who made his Germany debut in June 2009, has won 71 caps, playing a key role in the side that captured the World Cup in 2014, earning him the Golden Glove award and a place in the World Cup Dream-team.
