Salisu Yusuf wants Eagles to top Group C

Erstwhile Super Eagles B coach, Salisu Yusuf has revealed that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) sent him to Enugu Rangers to serve as a technical assistant.

Rangers, who dissolved their entire coaching crew following a shock home defeat to Akwar Starlets in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) on Sunday, welcomed Salisu to the club on Wednesday.

The Flying Antelopes are yet to record a win in the NPFL this season, but are also representing the country at the continental second-tier competition – the CAF Confederation Cup.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Salisu said: “I am here on a technical assistance from the federation as Rangers is representing the country in continental club football.

“We hope to take the team to the next level from where they are now and it is not going to be easy.

“We need to change some things but is going to be a gradual process.”

Salisu’s appointment comes as Rangers prepare to play in the group stage of the Confederation Cup, with their first fixture billed for Sunday when they play away to Egyptian side Pyramids.

Mauritania’s Nouadhibou and another Egyptian side Al Masry are the other teams in the group A.

It would be recalled that coach Salisu was slammed with a one-year ban on September 5, 2018 following his alleged involvement in a bribery incident, of which the 57-year-old was caught on camera receiving money to influence his team selection for the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Morocco.

He has since be reinstated, but nothing official has been said concerning his return to the coaching crew of the national team.
