Nine Ghanaian 'coup plotters' arraigned in court

Nine people accused of plotting to overthrow the Ghanaian government has been arraigned in a court for treason.

The suspects who are facing trial for allegedly plotting to overthrow the Akufo-Addo led- government by attacking the presidency have been charged with treason in a Kaneshie Magistrate Court.

According to the state prosecutor, the accused were part of a group known as Take Action Ghana and had planned to stage a series of protests with the purpose of destabilising the country.

The suspects include a senior military officer Col. Samuel Kojo Gameli and a civilian employee of the Ghana Armed Forces Gershun Akpa.

The charge sheet reads: “Conspiracy to comity treason felony 2. Treason felony 3. Possession of explosives, firearms, and ammunition”.

They were arrested last month for allegedly plotting to seize key state installations with the aim of overthrowing President Akufo-Addo.
