OBI: ‘An ethnic bigot is a lesser evil than a divisively religious one’, Shehu Sani fires back at El-Rufai

Senator Shehu Sani has joined the fray in the controversy surrounding attacks on the vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

El-Rufai had stoked the flames of ethno-religious controversy when he described former Anambra State governor and PDP presidential running mate, Peter Obi, as a “tribal bigot”.

The governor made the statement on Friday.

El-Rufai reacted to a tweet that read, “Peter Obi bundled some northerners, mostly those who engaged in menial jobs for survival & marched them in trailer load back to their base. To him, these guys had no business being in Anambra State”.

Responding via his verified Twitter account, El-Rufai said, “Peter Obi is a tribal bigot. He was widely quoted on national television that the SSS was right to detain me for 48 hours in an hotel in 2014 on the grounds that “El-Rufai has no business being in Anambra State as it is not Katsina State”! I sued the SSS and awarded N4m damages”.

But tweeting a reply to El-Rufai, his bitter political rival, Sani said “An ethnic bigot is a lesser evil than a divisively religious one”.

Sani, who recently left the All Progressives Congress (APC), for the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), after his fallout with El-Rufai characterised by a long-drawn political duel, has, like the governor, not pulled any punches in their much-publicised battle for political supremacy.
