Ondo govt frees 26 inmates to contain spread of COVID-19

The Ondo State government has ordered the release of no fewer than 26 inmates of the Olokuta Correctional Centre Akure, the state capital.

This was reveald in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Segun Ajiboye, who said that the inmates were granted pardon to stem the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic especially at the correctional center in the state.

Ajiboye said, “This is in exercise of the power conferred on the Governor by paragraph (d) of the sub-section (1) of section 212, of the Nigeria constitution 1999 (as amended).”

This comes after the Lagos State government Tuesday confirmed the discharge of nine more coronavirus patients after they recovered from the disease.

The state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who disclosed this in a statement, said the patients were discharged after testing negative for the disease twice.
