In its desire to project the Yoruba culture to the world and promote values it says have made the race one of the most respected across the globe with rich cultural heritage and tradition, the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) under the leadership of its national coordinator, Otunba Gani Adams has concluded plans for the 13th edition of its annual Olokun Festival.
According to Otunba Adams, the annual event, promoted by Olokun Festival Foundation is mainly to showcase the cultural values and tradition of the Yorubas, providing an opportunity for prominent people and dignitaries to come to Nigeria from every part of the world.
Speaking at a media conference on Sunday to enumerate the lineup of programmes for the event, Adams, said “no doubt, Nigeria is a blessed nation, but we can only make lasting impact on the global world if we appreciate our culture and make our tourist sites attractive to the world.”

According to him, this can be done by developing a template for cultural integration and development of tourism in the country, noting, that this is what the organisation is doing by using the Olokun Festival to create an “avenue for people to see what has gone amiss in our culture and how we can regain our lost glory by using such festivals as Olokun Festival as a template for cultural integration and promotion.”
He said, “It is my belief however, that as we roll out the drums to celebrate this year’s Olokun Festival, it will open a new chapter of progress in the annals of this country and create windows of opportunities for Nigerians who share the same dream of a great nation as we do.

“We have also organized an 11- day programme for this year’s Olokun Festival Celebration beginning with prayer to Almighty God on Thursday October 1st, 2015, at Airport Hotel, Awolowo way, Ikeja, Lagos.”
He also highlighted other programmes for the fiesta to include:
An arts exhibition, Yoruba Quiz Competition, lecture, Beauty Pageant, games and festival float/carnival among others.
