Opposition is not enmity, Buhari counsels APC, PDP leaders

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday told leaders of the ruling APC, and opposition PDP that in a multi-party democracy, opposition should not be viewed as enmity or with antagonism.

The president stated this when leaders of both parties visited him at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Friday.

APC national chairman, Chief John Oyegun led the APC delegation, while the PDP delegation is led by the chairman of its National Caretaker Committee, Sen. Ahmad Makarfi.

Buhari in his address, thanked both party members for coming out to welcome him back to the country, adding that their visit signifies the unity of Nigeria.

“It is not a party occasion. It is not a political gathering. It is a symbol of our National unity. It is also an expression of the maturity of our democracy”, he stated.

The president continued, that “Multi-party democracy is a very tried and tested form of government. Opposition does not mean hostility, enmity or antagonism. Democracy needs opposition, one which is vibrant but responsible.

“I am very pleased to see you assembled here all shades of opinion in Nigeria. Please convey to our countrymen and women in your respective states my deep gratitude to all those who prayed for my recovery. I am imploring all Nigerians to continue praying for peace and prosperity in Nigeria”.

The president is also scheduled to meet with the governors of the 36 states later in the day.

Politics in Nigeria is funny, see how Markafi is smiling at Buhari as if he has seen an angel and yet out there go out to criticize him. See how oyegun held markafi as if they are friends, well! Politicians are one in Nigeria except for personal interest

That’s how politics is, they will be smiling at each other ‘on the face’ like they are best of friends, but deep inside of them, they are enemies.

He cant show up among the sheep because he is a goat, I was surprised his friend Wike showed up at the meeting though he was wise not to have said negative things about baba buhari.

I hope the PDP will realize this, especially Fayose and Fani-Kayode who are always opposing Buhari-led government like the are enemies. In politics, there should be no permanenet enemy because, at some points, they will have to lobby and negotiate
