The race for the chairmanship of the Peoples Democratic Party is set to hot up this week as aspirants are expected to fully begin their campaigns.

Investigations by The PUNCH correspondent showed that aspirants are already planning to use the resumption of members of the National Assembly to show their interest in the number one party position of the former ruling party.

However, some of the major contenders for the position have vowed to fight the imposition of any aspirant, while at the same time some have vowed not to step down for others.

It was learnt that frontrunners in the race had vowed to oppose consensus candidate as they have stated that every contender must be ready to face the party’s delegates at the December national convention.

A former Minister of Education, Prof. Tunde Adeniran, told The PUNCH that every candidate for the office of the National Chairman of the party must be ready to test his popularity at the convention.
