The 50th birthday anniversary of Akwa Ibom state Governor, Emmanuel Udom was remarkably celebrated with pensioners in the state protesting that he pays them their entitlements.

It was not clear if it was a coincidence or a planned protest as pensioners in the oil rich state beseeched the Akwa Ibom Government House over non-payment of their entitlements, just on the 50 birthday of the governor, Udom Emmanuel.

Though, there were reports that the aggrieved pensioners purposely planned the protest to be on a day the governor valued so much.

Ripples Nigeria gathered that many of the pensioners are retired primary school teachers and retirees of local government areas in the state and have not received their pensions in over fourteen months.

It was reported last month that no fewer than 20 pensioners in the state have died without receiving their entitlement while others are said to be bedridden, abandoned or thrown out their homes in the last one year owing to non-payment of their pension and gratuities.
