Police recruits to take mental, HIV, pregnancy tests

The 133,324 candidates shortlisted for recruitment into the Nigerian Police will be made to undergo strict routine of tests to ascertain their individual qualification.

The Nigerian Police Force has revealed that each candidate will undergo a series of test including psychological evaluation, HIV and Hepatitis screening while the female candidates will also be subjected to a pregnancy test.

Ibrahim Idris, the Inspector-General of the Nigerian Police revealed that successful candidates will also undergo a written aptitude test to be conducted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board after physical screening.

Idris warned the state commands to be thorough, impartial and ensure transparency during the exercise which is expected to commence nationwide on Monday.

“General medical test, which covers blood pressure, blood sugar, body mass index, Hepatitis B and C, HIV screening, tuberculosis, antigen in serum and pregnancy test (for women only). Others include psychological evaluation of the candidates, which covers psychological interview, personality and integrity as well as drug screening will be conducted on the candidates,” the statement added.

The IG also urged candidates to conduct themselves in a proper manner during the duration of the exercise.

“Candidates are advised to be of good conduct throughout the exercise,” he said.
