QUIT NOTICE: Arewa youths, Ndigbo suspend peace meeting over fresh issues

The Peace Committee set up by Arewa youths and Igbo leaders to address the troubling issue of the quit notice order to Ndigbo living in the North on Monday postponed its meeting for another 10 days to enable both parties make more consultations.

The two groups had set up a bi-partisan committee on August 4 with the mandate to look into the October 1 quit notice to all Igbos living in the 19 northern states and find a lasting solution to the tension the order has created.

However, when the group met on Monday, it was learnt that some issues cropped up which they felt needed more time to be looked into and addressed.

A joint statement by the 10-man committee drawn equally from both parties said that the meeting “adjourned to reconvene in the next 10 days, where a final resolution on the contentious issues will be achieved.”

The groups led by Chi Nwogu (Igbo) and Dauda Shamakiri (Arewa youths), said the panel would resume meeting on the contending issues in 10 days and that all resolutions shall be forwarded to relevant channels for implementation.

A coalition of northern youths had on June 6 ordered that all Igbos living in the North must vacate the region’s 19 states on or before October 1.

Despite being strongly condemned by leaders across the country including the Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai with calls for the arrest of leaders of the groups, nobody has been arrested and the order has continued to linger.

It is believed that the Federal Government’s failure to address the situation has encouraged an anti-Igbo song allegedly circulating in the North calling for elimination of Ndigbo in the region.

No cause for alarm, nothing will happen on October 1st, so they should stop causing unnecessary drama

You are right. There is nothing like Arewa group anywhere. No tribe is leaving any part of the country, so let’s stop the mess

These are way people or what do they call themselves and the Igbos are only having fun, they don’t seem to be having problems, they just want the country to pay attention to them and they are having it already.

There’s no reason for them to reach agreement when they know they cannot leave together in peace. They should all go back to the drawing board and settle whatever differences they have.

There’s nothing the areas youths can do, they cannot survive without us and their end is almost here. If they decided to allow us stay, we will eventually leave their land for Biafra where we belong. They should just prepare and start learning how to survive on their own, because by the time all Igbos are ready to move to biafra, we won’t ha be pity in anyone, there will be no going back.
