....Still on Brexit

The lower legislative chamber on Thursday stopped the planned deportation of 29,000 Nigerians from the United Kingdom.
Rita Orji, a lawmaker, who raised the issue as a matter of urgent public importance, said it was expedient for the lower house to address the deportation which in her reckoning was unjustified.
According to her, the deportation faced by the affected Nigerians was a result of migration crisis created by troubled regions around the world.
While making a case for the affected Nigerians, Orji said: “Deporting these Nigerians without appropriately ascertaining their identity, economic situation, health and family status will constitute a problem to themselves, Nigeria and Nigerians. The UK government did not disclose whether those facing deportation have legal right to stay in the UK or not and why these huge numbers of Nigerians needed to face deportation all at once. “

Expatiating, she said: “It is worrisome that most of those to be deported may not have been to Nigeria since they left and may no longer have families in the country.”.
The green chamber directed the Committee on Diaspora and Foreign Affairs to look into the matter with a view to resolving the issues.
The motion was unanimously adopted after it was put to a voice vote by the presiding officer, Deputy Speaker, Yussuff Lasun.
