Reps fume as security chiefs shun meeting

The leadership of House of Representatives on Friday expressed displeasure as some of the Service Chiefs refused to attend a meeting initiated to address security challenges in parts of the country.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, who presided over the meeting, expressed disappointment in the security chiefs and promised to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari to address some of the nagging issues and the need to ensure synergy between the Executive and Legislature.

Gbajabiamila who frowned at the decision of the Service Chief who sent the Director, Account Department to the meeting, however, commended the Inspector General of Police, Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service and Director General of State Security Service for attending the meeting.

In his brief remarks, Deputy Speaker, Hon. Idris Wase, who frowned at the flagrant disregard for the Parliament, disclosed that he came across one of the Service Chiefs who was going to the State House, on his way to the National Assembly.

To this end, Hon. Gbajabiamila adjourned the meeting to Monday, by 10:00 am.
