Reps invite UNIZIK VC over alleged poor project execution
The House of Representatives Committee on University Education has invited the acting Vice Chancellor of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) Awka, Anambra State, Prof. Carol Arinze-Umobi, over alleged poor project execution.
The Chairman of the Committee, Abubakar Fulata, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.
He said the invitation followed the committee’s earlier visit to the university, adding that it was not to a witch-hunt of the VC.
The chairman added that the committee members would not fold their arms and allow things that would halt the expected progress in the nation’s universities persist.

“The committee observed that the data presented in the documents submitted by the VC did not align with the reality on the ground in terms of project execution,” he stated.
Fulata wondered how the management of the university would claim to have generated N1.5 billion in a preceding year but later said it spent about N3 billion from the same internally generated revenue.
He described as a gross violation of the constitution public expenditures without appropriation by the parliament.
He stressed that the presentation of cooked-up figures undermines the integrity of the university management.
