#RESUMEORRESIGN: Nigerians in London hold overnight protest against Buhari

Nigerians resident in London, U.K held an overnight sit-down protest on Friday night in front of the Abuja House against the continued stay of ailing President Muhammadu Buhari in that country.

The protesters gathered in front of 2 Campden Hill, Kensington. W8 7AD, location of the residence where the president is staying, and where he has been receiving delegations from Nigeria and other parts.

A group, Hope for Nigeria which shares pictures and videos of the protest on Facebook, had earlier on Friday called out Nigerians resident in the area to join them, assuring that the British Police and Kensington and Chelsea Council had provided safety barriers for them, and that the parking in that road was suspended for car users.

The protesters planned to stay outside the official Nigerian resident from 5pm Friday evening till 8:30am Saturday morning in protest.

They are demanding President Buhari return home to Nigeria or resign immediately due to an undisclosed ailment that has kept him out of office for more than 100 days since he left the shores of Nigeria on May 7.

They bore banners with words like: ‘Protect lives, not cows’, ‘Buhari, go back home’, ‘Resume or Resign, Nigerians say enough is enough’.

Some reports sighted London police patrol vehicle, and law enforcement agents around the venue of the protest.

It would be recalled that a similar protest in Abuja led by artist Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, under the aegis of #ourmumudindo, and the Concerned Nigerians group had met with stiff opposition from the police.

They were blaster with tear gas and water canons on the second day of their protest, with one person said to have been injured, even as Charly Boy slumped, but was later revived.

On a visit to the Wuse Market in Abuja, violence broke out, but peace was later retired by the police, after a gunshot was reported to have been heard.
